Lake District Photography Course for Beginners to Intermediate.


Our lake district photography course is the perfect way to learn new photography skills and enhance your photography knowledge.

The course is run by Award Winning Photographer Frank Clarke and is set on the banks of  the beautiful Ennerdale Waters.

The lake Districts hidden treasure. Ennerdale has recently been awarded a Dark Sky status, which means its a perfect place for night photography and sunsets and sunrises.

Not restricted to just photographing around Ennerdale, this photography course will also take you to some beautiful settings around the Lake District.

Frank is not just an award winning photographer but  also an avid walker and therefore knows many great walks and places to take photographs you will be proud of.

With over 20 years as a professional photographer, Frank can advise you on many techniques which will better your skills as a photographer.

However, they are also welcome to join us, if they like walking.

Photography tuition based at the Beckfoot Retreat on the banks of the beautiful Ennerdale Water in the Lake District.

What equipment you’ll need:

Digital SLR & Instruction booklet if you have one.
Tripod (although we do have a couple of spares)
Your selection of lenses
Any filters you have. You can use ours if the fittings are the same


Personal Wear:

Sturdy boots, preferably waterproof
A waterproof jacket and trousers
Warm gloves and a hat
A warm extra layer
A rucksack for your kit


Group size:

We limit the course to 4 photographers only. This enables us to spend a good amount of time with each student 1 to 1.

Can my partner come along?  Non-photographic partners are very welcome to accompany us on the trips.

Day 1
5pm: Arrive at Beckfoot for tea.
5.30 – 7.15pm An opportunity to head out on foot to capture some images around the local area, sunsets over Ennerdale Lake if its clear.
7.30pm Dinner

Day 2
8.30-9.15am  Breakfast
9.15am – 9.45am  Course Introduction
9.45am – 2.00pm  Location shoot and tuition followed by  picnic lunch  (on location)
2.30pm – 4pm  Location shoot and tuition
5 – 6pm  Head back to  Beckfoot to freshen up
6.15 – 7.45pm Dinner

Day 3
Early!  An optional trip out, making the most of the early morning light
9.00am – 09:45am Breakfast
09.45am– 1.00pm  Location shoot and tuition
1.15pm  Buffet lunch at Beckfoot and review of images
2.15pm – 3.45pm  Post-shoot image processing on iMacs
3.45-4pm Review and Workshop closes

Because sunset and sunrise times change throughout the year, therefore we will alter times accordingly.  Taking in to account weather conditions on the day, we will be flexible with the times.

Beckfoot Retreat:

Beckfoot Retreat is a Georgian farmhouse, which nestles below Great Borne by Ennerdale Water.
It was a working farm over 100 years ago and the original dairy now serves as the dining room for guests.
The house is owned by the National Trust and tenant Nina recently returned to the Lake District after many years as a Film and Digital Producer.
